THE LONG STORY OF THE RAINBOW HANGING PODS:

It started with a Pickle who LOVVVVVVEs St. Patrick's Day. His lighthearted fascination with green and leprechauns prompted me to think of designing a new hanging pod to enjoy the holiday with him. The rainbow pod. It wasn't just about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but the rainbow as the visual promise of God and His love. So the rainbow hanging pod was debuted appropriately for St. Patrick's Day.

It just so happened to be the year 2020 and rainbows seemed to take the country by storm. I suppose we could say I was simply "in the right place at the right time," but I can't help but see the hand of God in these pods. Etsy featured my rainbow hanging pods as a trending item for kids and then Buzzfeed. com shared them in an article about home storage solutions and they went completely viral.

Our complete existence here at Feeding Pickle Ltd. became rainbow pods--and I say "our" because it became a true family project. I was sewing endlessly from pre-dawn to post-dark, my husband helped iron after work, and several of the Pickles earned pocket money that summer by cutting out piles and mountains of fabric. Rainbow hanging pods became a huge blessing that really boosted our family that year. The business which was started to cover groceries, was now covering the last bit of our mortgage and more. We look back at this time and give thanks and then definitely chuckle at the craziness of such an experience

My favorite moment might have been calling my grandma after the Buzzfeed article took off and hearing her celebratory cheer on the other end of the line followed by, "I'm so happy for you, and I'm sure it's amazing, but I have no idea what this buzz something is?!" A perfect reminder that the event, the popularity, and the viral moment may be fleeting, but the experience was ours to embrace and enjoy together. It was definitely a time (albeit a sleepless many months!) that will go down in the family timeline as a core memory.

The rainbows are still a popular item in the shop and they still make me smile. They will always hold a special place in my heart because God's love that has made a way through life's wildest storm still holds true.
